STARTING OUT

Trout was born in Vineland, New Jersey, on August 7, 1991, and grew up in nearby Millville, New Jersey. He began playing baseball in the Cal Ripken Baseball League, where he played as a shortstop. While playing in the league, Trout admired the New York Yankees' Derek Jeter and wore the number two in honor of him.

Trout continued playing baseball in high school, switching his number to one. He attended Millville Senior High School and earned three letters in baseball and two in basketball.
