Where Is Kyle Lowry From?
Lowry was born and raised in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was one of two sons of Marie Holloway and Lonnie Lowry Sr. alongside Lonnie Jr., his older brother by 5 years. His father lived only 10 minutes away from the family's home. However, when Kyle was around seven years old, his father became estranged from the family, leaving Lowry and his siblings to be raised by his mom and his disciplinarian grandmother.
Growing up in North Philadelphia was not easy for Lowry. He was surrounded by violence, drugs, and crime. However, he managed to stay on the right path thanks in large part to his older brother, Lonnie Jr. Lonnie Jr. was instrumental in teaching him how to play basketball and helped him avoid the pitfalls that so many of his childhood friends fell into.
Lonnie Jr. played an important role in Lowry's life by ensuring that he did not follow in the same path as his childhood friends who are no longer alive. He even went as far as to not allow Lowry to have any tattoos or piercings. Lonnie Jr. also searched newspaper ads for AAU basketball tryouts and ensured that Lowry would get there and make their teams. This early exposure to basketball was key in Lowry's development as a player.
Despite the challenges of his upbringing, Lowry persevered and became one of the best players in the NBA. He currently plays for the Miami Heat and is widely regarded as one of the top point guards in the league. Knowing where he came from and the challenges he overcame only makes his success even more impressive.
