Herro was born on January 20, 2000, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended Whitnall High School in Greenfield, Wisconsin, where he played basketball and quickly gained a reputation as a standout player. In his senior year, he averaged an impressive 32.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.3 steals per game, earning him First Team All-State honors.
After high school, Herro committed to playing for the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but he eventually changed his mind and decided to play for the Kentucky Wildcats. At Kentucky, Herro continued to impress, averaging 14.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. He was named an All-Freshman First Team selection by Basketball Times and the Southeastern Conference Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press.
In 2019, Herro declared for the NBA draft and was selected by the Miami Heat as the 13th overall pick. He quickly made an impact on the team, becoming a key player in his rookie season and helping the Heat reach the NBA Finals.
