Where Is Kris Bryant From?
Kris Bryant, born Kristopher Lee Bryant, is a professional baseball player for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on January 4, 1992, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and grew up in a family of baseball enthusiasts. His father, Mike Bryant, was a former minor league baseball player for the Boston Red Sox organization, who went on to coach his son and help him hone his skills from an early age.
Bryant's childhood was filled with memories of playing baseball, and he spent a considerable amount of time on the field, perfecting his skills. He and fellow baseball players Bryce Harper and Joey Gallo grew up as acquaintances in the Las Vegas area and began playing baseball with each other at the age of 9. Their friendly competition was displayed when they faced each other in the Major Leagues in the May 2015 series against the Washington Nationals at Wrigley Field.
Bryant attended Bonanza High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was a star player on the school's varsity baseball team. He recorded a .418 batting average, a .958 slugging percentage (SLG), 103 hits, and 47 career home runs, which earned him the title of USA Today's All-USA baseball first-team in 2010. He also took his studies seriously and was named Salutatorian of his class, but he passed on accepting the position and gave it to a classmate that he knew wanted it more than him, showing his selflessness and humble nature.
Bryant was selected in the 18th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, but he decided to enroll at the University of San Diego to play college baseball for the San Diego Toreros. He was a standout player and was named an All-American in 2012 and 2013, winning the Dick Howser Trophy and Golden Spikes Award in 2013.
Bryant's hard work and dedication to the sport paid off when he was selected second overall in the 2013 Major League Baseball draft by the Chicago Cubs. He quickly established himself as a top prospect in the league and was named Minor League Player of the Year in 2014. He made his major league debut in 2015 and was named National League Rookie of the Year after hitting .275/.369/.488 with 26 home runs and 99 RBIs in his first big league season.
Kris Bryant's childhood and high school years were filled with baseball and a strong focus on academics. With a supportive family and a father who helped him hone his skills from an early age, Bryant went on to achieve great success in the sport, making him one of the most recognizable names in the Major Leagues today.
