Green was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on March 4, 1990, to parents Mary Babers and Wallace Davis. He attended Saginaw High School, where he quickly established himself as a standout athlete. As a sophomore, he averaged an impressive 12 points and 11 rebounds per game, and he continued to improve his game over the next two years. By his senior year, he was a dominant force on the court, leading Saginaw to back-to-back state championships and earning numerous accolades along the way.
After graduating from Saginaw High, Green committed to play college basketball for Michigan State University. He joined the Spartans in 2008 and quickly made an impact, averaging 3.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game as a freshman. Over the next three years, he continued to improve his game, developing into a versatile forward who could play multiple positions and contribute in a variety of ways. By his senior year, he was a team captain and a consensus first-team All-American, averaging 16.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.
