After graduating from Saginaw High, Green committed to play college basketball for Michigan State University. He joined the Spartans in 2008 and quickly made an impact, averaging 3.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game as a freshman. By his senior year, he was a team captain and a consensus first-team All-American, averaging 16.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.
