His impressive play caught the attention of college basketball coaches across the country, and he ultimately chose to attend the University of Michigan to continue his basketball career.

During his two years at Michigan, Poole continued to develop his skills and established himself as a talented player. In his sophomore year, he helped lead the Wolverines to the NCAA championship game, where they lost to Villanova. Despite the loss, Poole's performance in the tournament and throughout the season earned him recognition as one of the top players in the Big Ten conference.
