Where Did Josh Allen Go To College?
Josh Allen has emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, leading the Buffalo Bills with his impressive skills as both a passer and a runner. But the path to success for Allen has been anything but straightforward. From facing challenges in college to proving his doubters wrong, Allen's journey to the NFL has shaped him into the exceptional athlete he is today. In this article, we delve into Allen's college career, exploring where he attended and the pivotal moments that paved the way for his professional success.
Josh Allen's football journey began with humble origins. Hailing from Firebaugh, California, Allen dreamed of playing for Fresno State. However, despite his aspirations, he did not receive any Division I scholarship offers, forcing him to take a detour in his collegiate career. Allen made the decision to enroll at Reedley College, a junior college near Fresno, where he showcased his skills as a quarterback. During his time at Reedley, Allen impressed with his arm talent, throwing for 2,055 yards, 26 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. He also demonstrated his mobility by rushing for 660 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Following his stint at Reedley College, Allen's determination and persistence led him to reach out to numerous FBS programs, sending emails to head coaches and coordinators with his highlights. Eventually, he received offers from two FBS schools, but none from Power 5 conferences. The MAC's Eastern Michigan and the Mountain West's Wyoming showed interest, and Allen ultimately chose Wyoming as his collegiate destination. Joining the Wyoming Cowboys in 2015, Allen faced early adversity when he sustained a broken collarbone in his first game as a starter, causing him to miss the rest of the season.
Undeterred by the setback, Allen returned in 2016 as the team's full-time starter. Over the next two seasons, he displayed his skills and led the Cowboys' offense with his strong arm and athletic ability. Allen amassed a total of 5,066 passing yards, 44 passing touchdowns, and 21 interceptions during his Wyoming career. Additionally, he showcased his versatility as a runner, accumulating 767 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
The impressive performances during his college career garnered attention and put Allen on the radar of NFL scouts. In 2018, Allen declared for the NFL Draft, where he was selected as the seventh overall pick by the Buffalo Bills. Since then, Allen has solidified himself as a franchise quarterback, earning Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors. He has showcased his growth as a passer, completing 63.3 percent of his passes for 4,407 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in a single season. Notably, Allen's ability to contribute as a rusher sets him apart, leading the league in yards per carry and adding 763 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
Josh Allen's journey from an under-recruited high school quarterback to a standout NFL player exemplifies his resilience and determination. Overcoming obstacles and seizing opportunities, Allen's time at Wyoming and Reedley College shaped him into the accomplished quarterback he is today. With his impressive skill set and relentless work ethic, Allen has become a vital asset to the Buffalo Bills and a rising star in the NFL.
