As the NBA trade deadline approaches, rumors surrounding the future of Portland Trail Blazers superstar, Damian Lillard, continue to swirl. Despite the team's struggles this season, with a record of 21-25 and sitting in 13th place in the Western Conference, the Blazers are determined to not throw in the towel just yet. As reported by Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, the Blazers are actively seeking ways to improve the roster around Dame, with the organization committed to being "opportunistic and creative in trying to surround franchise star Damian Lillard with a roster capable of competing with the best."

One of the main issues the Blazers are facing is their lack of basketball IQ on the court. Many of the turnovers the team is committing are unforced errors that are not characteristic of a team that is trying to win now. This has led to questions about whether the problem is with the players or with the coaching. Lillard, who is averaging 28 points and 8 assists per game, has been candid about his desire to win now, and will not endorse a plan to be non-competitive as long as he is healthy.

When asked about the team's progress and the upcoming trade deadline, Lillard stated, “We are looking to the sideline for direction... I think if we can get to the point where we govern ourselves and figure things out for ourselves while we are in the middle of (a lull), I think it will help us.” This statement, while not meant as a dig at coach Chauncey Billups, does raise questions about whether the team is relying too heavily on their coach to direct them and lead them out of their struggles.

As the trade deadline approaches, it remains to be seen what changes the Blazers will make in order to turn their season around. Whether it's through coaching adjustments or personnel changes, the Blazers will need to find a way to improve their basketball IQ and execute on the court in order to have a chance at success this season. While the team is said to be listening to all overtures, it's important to note that Lillard's future with the Blazers is not certain. In an interview 10 months ago, Lillard stated, “If they came to me and they wanted to trade me – I’m not going to fight them on wanting to trade me. I don’t want to be anywhere I’m not wanted. But I don’t think that’s the case."

With the trade deadline fast approaching, the fate of one of the NBA's most beloved players, Dame, remains uncertain. Will the Blazers make the necessary changes to surround Lillard with a roster capable of competing with the best? Or will Lillard's time in Rip City come to an end?
