Trae Young (Rayford Trae Young) was born in Lubbock, Texas on September 19, 1998. He played college basketball for the Oklahoma Sooners where he was awarded the Wayman Tisdale Award. In March 2018, he declared for the NBA draft, and was picked fifth by the Dallas Mavericks and later traded to the Atlanta Hawks, along with a future first-round pick, for the draft rights to Luka Dončić.
"Ice Trae" has proven to be a valuable asset to the Atlanta Hawks. He has been honored with numerous awards, including being named a starter for the Eastern Conference in the 2020 NBA All-Star Game, three-time Eastern Conference Player of the Week award recipient, four-time NBA Rookie of the Month selection, and was a finalist for the 2021 USA National Team.
