Who Are Donovan Mitchell's Parents?
Who Are Donovan Mitchell's Parents?
Donovan Mitchell's parents are Nicole and Donovan Mitchell Sr. Donovan's father served as a director of player relations for the New York Mets and Donovan spent his childhood around Major League Baseball locker rooms. Donovan's mother, who is of Panamanian descent, was a teacher. Both of Donovan's parents instilled a great work ethic in him and his sister Jordan. They both attended Greenwich Country Day, where tuition costs $37,000 or more per student. They then both attended boarding school at Brewster Academy, which lists its tuition at $62,600 per student. Having a top-notch education was important to Donovan's mother, Nicole.
When Donovan started focusing on basketball instead of his education, Nicole became concerned. She didn't see how basketball would take her son far in life. She wanted him to focus on his studies and get his grades up. However, Donovan quickly learned that he had to make his education a priority if he wanted to keep playing basketball. Nicole had to ground him just once from playing in a big game when he didn't get his big assignment in. He didn't want to let his teammates down by not being there for a game, so he made sure to balance both basketball and school.
Mitchell attended Canterbury School in New Milford, Connecticut for his first two years of high school. After playing baseball during that time, an injury ended his career and he transferred to Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. At Brewster Academy, Donovan became more focused on basketball and won two prep school national championships. He played ball for his prep school, as well as AAU ball. Donovan was invited to play in the regional game for the Jordan Brand Classic and committed to playing college basketball at the University of Louisville.
Donovan was able to achieve his dream of playing in the NBA due to his hard work and dedication. His parents played a big role in instilling a strong work ethic in him and helping him focus on both basketball and academics. Donovan's journey provides a great example for young athletes who are looking to make it to the top level of their sport. Whether you're starting out in basketball, or another sport, or want to be an academic superstar, Donovan's story shows that with determination and perseverance, anything is possible. Donovan's perseverance led him to be drafted by the Utah Jazz as the 13th overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft.
